Sunny and Cold, Hidden Valley

Sunny and Cold, Hidden Valley 10x8 oil

The walk was a bit treacherous, with icey bits where the snow had previously melted. I wanted to make sure I wasn't so deep in the valley that I wouldn't get the sun, as it was setting. The sun was out only for short periods at a time. As I was painting, I had my bright whites and my shadow colours premixed, ready for that burst of sun, then as quickly as possible I would paint them in. I loved the way the sun was hitting the trees in the background.  It looked surreal.
